00 HOUSE BILL NO. 394 01 "An Act relating to allowing insurance policies to be filed, approved, and delivered in 02 languages other than English if an official English language version is also provided." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 21.42 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Sec. 21.42.175. Foreign language translations. (a) An insurer may file and 06 the director may approve an insurance policy, form, or associated material in 07 languages other than English if the insurance policy, form, or associated material 08 (1) is filed with the division with a copy of the same material in 09 English; and 10 (2) discloses in the language other than English, and in English, that 11 the English language version is the official version and a foreign language version is 12 for informational purposes only. 13 (b) The English language version of the insurance policy, form, or associated 14 material shall be considered the official version for purposes of application and
01 interpretation. 02 (c) An insurer that knowingly misrepresents information in an insurance 03 policy, form, or associated material translated into a language other than English shall 04 be subject to the general penalty for violations of this title under AS 21.90.020.
