01 "An Act relating to the exemption from public inspection of certain records and                                         
02 information of public agencies that are compiled in connection with peace or                                            
03 correctional officers."                                                                                                 
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
05    * Section 1.  AS 40.25.120 is amended by adding new subsections to read:                                           
06            (d)  Notwithstanding (a)(6) of this section, a public agency                                                 
07                 (1)  shall release to a person filing a complaint against a peace officer                               
08       or correctional officer with a public agency a copy of the statement made by the                                  
09       person when the complaint was filed; and                                                                          
10                 (2)  may disseminate information on the number, type, and disposition                                   
11       of complaints, whether or not the complaints are sustained, not sustained, or                                     
12       determined to be unfounded, made against the peace officers or correctional officers of                           
13       a public agency if the information is disseminated in a form that does not identify the                           
14       individuals involved.                                                                                             

01            (e)  In this section,                                                                                        
02                 (1)  "correctional officer" has the meaning given in AS 18.65.290;                                      
03                 (2)  "records or information compiled for law enforcement purposes"                                     
04       includes                                                                                                          
05                      (A)  records of internal investigations or proceedings                                             
06            concerning the conduct of a peace officer or correctional officer of a public                                
07            agency if the records are maintained by a public agency; and                                                 
08                      (B)  information obtained from the records described in (A) of                                     
09            this paragraph.
