00 HOUSE BILL NO. 221 01 "An Act directing a reduction of long distance telephone rates to offset exchange access 02 fees paid by consumers; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 42.05.830 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 05 (b) If consumers of local exchange telephone services are required to pay a fee 06 to cover any portion of a long distance carrier's access charges under (a) of this 07 section, the long distance carrier shall provide a corresponding reduction in long 08 distance rates to all classes of consumers that offsets the savings to the long distance 09 carrier resulting from any portion of access fees being paid by consumers. The 10 commission shall by regulation require long distance carriers to report information 11 needed by the commission to determine that consumer long distance rates accurately 12 reflect the reduction required by this subsection. 13 * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 14 read:
01 02 REGULATIONS. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska shall adopt the regulations 03 required in AS 42.05.830(b), added by sec. 1 of this Act, within six months after the effective 04 date of this Act. 05 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
