00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1 01 Proposing amendments to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to limiting 02 ballot propositions to the general election ballot. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article XI, sec. 4, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05 Section 4. Initiative Election. An initiative petition may be filed at any time. 06 The lieutenant governor shall prepare a ballot title and proposition summarizing the 07 proposed law, and shall place them on the ballot for the first general [STATEWIDE] 08 election held more than one hundred twenty days after adjournment of the legislative 09 session following the filing. If, before the election, substantially the same measure has 10 been enacted, the petition is void. 11 * Sec. 2. Article XI, sec. 5, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 12 Section 5. Referendum Election. A referendum petition may be filed only 13 within ninety days after adjournment of the legislative session at which the act was 14 passed. The lieutenant governor shall prepare a ballot title and proposition 15 summarizing the act and shall place them on the ballot for the first general 16 [STATEWIDE] election held more than one hundred eighty days after adjournment of

01 that session. 02 * Sec. 3. The amendments proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 03 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 04 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
