00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 30 01 Relating to the elimination or merger of departments within the executive branch of 02 state government. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature finds that the public interest would be best 05 served and efficient administration would be promoted to the highest degree by 06 (1) merging the Department of Administration with the Department of 07 Revenue; 08 (2) merging the Department of Corrections with the Department of Public 09 Safety; 10 (3) merging the Department of Fish and Game with the Department of Natural 11 Resources; and 12 (4) eliminating the Department of Labor and Workforce Development and 13 transferring its powers, functions, and duties to the Department of Community and Economic 14 Development; and 15 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature finds that the public interest would be best 16 served and efficient administration would be promoted to the highest degree if these actions

01 were accomplished by July 1, 2005; and 02 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature finds that the public interest would be best 03 served and efficient administration would be promoted to the highest degree by the Alaska 04 State Legislature and the governor working together to accomplish these actions; 05 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests Governor 06 Frank Murkowski to direct the preparation of proposed legislation accomplishing these 07 actions and having an effective date of July 1, 2005, or earlier for the accomplishment of 08 these actions; and be it 09 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests 10 Governor Frank Murkowski to present this proposed legislation for introduction under 11 AS 24.08.060 at or before the commencement of the First Regular Session of the Twenty- 12 Fourth Alaska State Legislature. 13 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Frank Murkowski, Governor 14 of Alaska; the Honorable Mike Miller, Commissioner, Department of Administration; the 15 Honorable William A. Corbus, Commissioner, Department of Revenue; the Honorable Marc 16 Antrim, Commissioner, Department of Corrections; the Honorable Bill Tandeske, 17 Commissioner, Department of Public Safety; the Honorable Kevin C. Duffy, Commissioner, 18 Department of Fish and Game; the Honorable Tom Irwin, Commissioner, Department of 19 Natural Resources; the Honorable Greg O'Claray, Commissioner, Department of Labor and 20 Workforce Development; and the Honorable Edgar Blatchford, Commissioner, Department of 21 Community and Economic Development.
