00                   HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1                                                                    
01 Honoring Governor Frank H. Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Loren D. Leman                                             
02 for their years of public service; and congratulating Governor Murkowski and                                            
03 Lieutenant Governor Leman and extending them best wishes.                                                               
04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
05       WHEREAS Governor Frank H. Murkowski first assumed office as United States                                       
06 Senator in 1981 and served in that office until he became Governor of the State of Alaska in                            
07 2002; and                                                                                                               
08       WHEREAS, before Governor Murkowski became a member of the United States                                         
09 Senate, he served the state as commissioner of the Department of Economic Development;                                  
10 and                                                                                                                     
11       WHEREAS Governor Murkowski also served on the Wrangell School Board and                                         
12 helped to defend and protect the people of the United States by serving in the United States                            
13 Coast Guard; and                                                                                                        
14       WHEREAS Lieutenant Governor Loren D. Leman joined the Alaska State                                              
15 Legislature in 1989 and served continuously, first as a Representative and then as a Senator,                           

01 until he became Lieutenant Governor in 2002; and                                                                        
02       WHEREAS, during the general election held on November 5, 2002, the people of                                  
03 Alaska chose the Republican candidates Frank H. Murkowski and Loren D. Leman to be the                                  
04 new Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Alaska; and                                                        
05       WHEREAS, because both Governor Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Leman                                          
06 have served for many years in elected and other government positions, they have a wealth of                             
07 experience to draw on in carrying out their new responsibilities;                                                       
08       BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature honors Governor Frank H.                                       
09 Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Loren D. Leman and extends its gratitude for their many                               
10 years of public service; and be it                                                                                      
11       FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature congratulates Governor                                       
12 Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Leman on their election; and be it                                                    
13       FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature extends its best wishes for                                  
14 a successful administration to Governor Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Leman.
