01 "An Act relating to jury duty; and amending Rule 15(k), Alaska Rules of                                                 
02 Administration."                                                                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 09.20.030 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                          
05            (b)  A person may claim exemption and may be excused from service as a juror                                 
06       if it is shown that the person is a teacher in a school that has failed to make adequate                          
07       yearly progress under P.L. 107-110.  In this subsection, "teacher" has the meaning                                
08       given in AS 14.03.290.                                                                                            
09    * Sec. 2.  The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to                         
10 read:                                                                                                                   
11       INDIRECT COURT RULE AMENDMENT.  AS 09.20.030(b), added by sec. 1 of                                               
12 this Act, has the effect of amending Rule 15(k), Alaska Rules of Administration, by                                     
13 establishing an additional cause for exemption from jury service.
