01 "An Act requiring highways to be designed and constructed so that they will adequately                                  
02 serve anticipated traffic levels for the next 30 years; and providing for an effective                                  
03 date."                                                                                                                  
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
05    * Section 1.  AS 19.10.160 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                        
06            (b)  Plans and specifications for proposed highway projects prepared on or                                   
07       after the effective date of this Act must provide for the design and construction of                              
08       highways that will adequately serve the planned future traffic for the next 30 years in a                         
09       manner that is conducive to safety, durability, and economy of maintenance.                                       
10    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect July 1, 2002.
