00                      HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 12                                                                     
01 Proposing amendments to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to hunting,                                    
02 trapping, and fishing.                                                                                                  
03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  Article VIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read:                       
05            Section 1.  Statement of Policy. (a) It is the policy of the State to encourage                        
06       the settlement of its land and the development of its resources by making them                                    
07       available for maximum use consistent with the public interest.                                                    
08    * Sec. 2.  Article VIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a                       
09 new subsection to read:                                                                                                 
10            (b)  Hunting, trapping, and fishing are a valued part of the heritage of the State                           
11       that shall be forever preserved for the people and shall be managed by law for the                                
12       public good.                                                                                                      
13    * Sec. 3.  The amendments proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of                         
14 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the                        
15 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
