00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 24 01 Requesting the Board of Game to clarify regulations regarding donations of big game 02 meat to charitable organizations and the Department of Fish and Game to disseminate 03 information on donating big game meat to charitable organizations. 04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 WHEREAS big game hunting and the consumption of meat from big game animals is 06 an important element of the lifestyle and culture of Alaskans; and 07 WHEREAS not all Alaskans have the means or opportunity to hunt for big game; and 08 WHEREAS a constant need exists for meat of big game animals to alleviate hunger in 09 the state; and 10 WHEREAS charitable organizations frequently have a need to obtain meat of big 11 game animals to provide for the nutritional as well as the cultural needs of their clients; and 12 WHEREAS the waste of edible meat of big game animals is prohibited by law; and 13 WHEREAS more meat of big game animals may be donated to charitable 14 organizations if the regulations relating to gifts of big game meat explicitly allowed meat to 15 be donated to charitable organizations and if the Department of Fish and Game widely

01 disseminated information about the ability of hunters to donate big game meat to charitable 02 organizations; 03 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the Board 04 of Game to adopt regulations clarifying that a hunter may donate the meat of big game 05 animals to charitable organizations; and be it 06 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the 07 Department of Fish and Game to widely disseminate information to hunters and the public 08 regarding the donation of the meat of big game animals to charitable organizations. 09 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to Frank Rue, commissioner of fish and game; 10 and to Greg Roczicka, chair, Board of Game.
