01 "An Act relating to Alaska children's trust registration plates; and providing for an                                   
02 effective date."                                                                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 28.10.181(t) is amended to read:                                                                  
05            (t)  Special request Alaska children's trust plates.  Upon application by the                                
06       owner of a commercial or noncommercial passenger vehicle,                                                     
07       [NONCOMMERCIAL] van, [OR PICK-UP] truck, bus, or motor home, the                                          
08       department may design and issue registration plates representing the Alaska children's                            
09       trust under AS 37.14.200.  The department may disapprove the issuance of registration                             
10       plates under this subsection when the requested plates are a duplication of an existing                           
11       registration.  In this subsection, "vehicle" does not include a motorcycle.                                   
12    * Sec. 2.  AS 28.10.421(d)(14) is amended to read:                                                                 
13                 (14)  special request Alaska children's trust plates ........................$100                       
14       plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) or (c) [(b)(1) OR (2)] of this section;                      

01       the fee required by this paragraph shall be collected only on the first issuance and the                          
02       replacement of special request plates; the commissioner of administration shall                                   
03       separately account for the fees received under this paragraph that the department                                 
04       deposits in the general fund; notwithstanding (g) of this section, the annual estimated                           
05       balance in the account that is in excess of the cost of issuing special request plates may                        
06       be appropriated by the legislature into the principal of the Alaska children's trust under                        
07       AS 37.14.200.                                                                                                     
08    * Sec. 3.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
