00 SPONSOR SUBSTITUTE FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 76 01 "An Act authorizing the commissioner of health and social services to provide for the 02 design and construction of psychiatric treatment facilities to replace the facilities of the 03 Alaska Psychiatric Institute." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 06 to read: 07 REPLACEMENT OF THE FACILITIES OF THE ALASKA PSYCHIATRIC 08 INSTITUTE. The commissioner of health and social services shall provide, subject to an 09 appropriation by the legislature, for the design and construction of psychiatric treatment 10 facilities to replace the current facilities of the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. The replacement 11 facilities must include a forensic psychiatric unit to be operated by the Department of 12 Corrections that is separate from other elements of the facilities. In this section, "forensic 13 psychiatric unit" means a facility for the assessment, treatment, custody, and confinement of 14 mentally abnormal criminal offenders. The commissioner shall cooperate with the
01 Department of Corrections, the University of Alaska Anchorage, Providence Hospital in 02 Anchorage, Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, and the Municipality of Anchorage in 03 the design and construction of the replacement facilities.
