00 SENATE CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 72(RLS) 01 "An Act relating to an assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense in the 02 Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 26.05 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Sec. 26.05.185. Assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense. 06 (a) The adjutant general, with the concurrence of the governor, may appoint an 07 assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense. The adjutant general for 08 space and missile defense is the official military representative of the state in matters 09 pertaining to the development and deployment of a missile defense program in this 10 state. 11 (b) The assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense shall be a 12 federally recognized general-grade officer in the Alaska National Guard or an officer 13 in the grade of colonel in the Alaska National Guard who has qualifications to gain 14 federal recognition as a general-grade officer.
01 (c) The position of assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense is 02 authorized for the duration of the development and deployment of a missile defense 03 program in this state, subject to the availability of federal funding for that purpose. 04 * Sec. 2. AS 39.25.110 is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 05 (34) the assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense 06 appointed under AS 26.05.185. 07 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
