00HOUSE CS FOR SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 25(JUD) 01 Relating to voluntary school prayer. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS religious freedom is a fundamental constitutional right enshrined by our 04 founders in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution; and 05 WHEREAS the First Amendment has been eroded to a point where more protection 06 is afforded government institutions than citizens, a reversal of the original intent; and 07 WHEREAS our government has a constitutional obligation to protect religious 08 freedom and, in light of the assault on traditional moral values, the government needs to 09 ensure that freedom without fear of hostility to open and public prayer; 10 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature urges the United States Congress 11 to adopt an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to allow a moment of silence 12 for the purpose of voluntary prayer in public schools. 13 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the 14 Honorable Frank Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young, U.S.
