00SENATE BILL NO. 101                                                                                                   
01 "An Act amending the definition of 'disaster.'"                                                                         
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03    * Section 1.  AS 26.23.900(2) is amended to read:                                                                  
04   (2)  "disaster" means the occurrence or imminent threat of widespread                                                
05 or severe damage, injury, [OR] loss of life or property , or shortage of food, water,                                  
06 fuel, or clothing  resulting from [A NATURAL OR  MAN-MADE CAUSE,                                                       
07 INCLUDING]                                                                                                              
08   (A)  fire, flood, earthquake, landslide, mudslide, avalanche,                                                       
09 wind-driven water,  tornado, typhoon, hurricane  [WEATHER CONDITION],                                                 
10 tsunami, volcanic activity, epidemic, air contamination, blight, infestation,                                           
11 explosion,  or  riot [, OR SHORTAGE OF FOOD, WATER, FUEL, OR                                                          
12 CLOTHING];                                                                                                              
13     (B)  the release of oil or a hazardous substance [,] if the release                                             
14 requires prompt action to avert environmental danger or damage;  or  [AND]                                            

01   (C) equipment failure [,] if the failure is not a predictably                                                       
02 frequent or recurring event or preventable by adequate equipment maintenance                                            
03 or operation;
