01 "An Act increasing the duration of a mechanic's or materialman's lien to one                                            
02 year; and providing for an effective date."                                                                             
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  AS 34.35.080(a) is amended to read:                                                                  
05  (a)  A lien provided for in AS 34.35.050 - 34.35.120 does not bind real                                               
06 property for more than  one year  [SIX MONTHS] after the claim of lien is recorded                                    
07 [,] unless an action is commenced in the proper court to enforce the lien within                                        
08   (1)  that time; or                                                                                                   
09   (2)  one year  [SIX MONTHS] after recording of an extension notice                                                 
10 in the same recording office within the original  one-year  [SIX-MONTH] period                                        
11 showing the recording date and the book and page or instrument number of the initial                                    
12 claim of lien [,] and the balance owing.                                                                                
13    * Sec. 2.  The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section                            
14 to read:                                                                                                                



01  APPLICABILITY.  Section 1 of this Act applies to work performed on or after the                                        
02 effective date of this Act.                                                                                             
03    * Sec. 3.  This Act takes effect July 1, 2000.
