00HOUSE BILL NO. 374 01 "An Act making appropriations to the University of Alaska for the establishment 02 and operation of the Center for the New Economy and Technology and for 03 improvements to computer science and technology programs; and providing for an 04 effective date." 05 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 06 * Section 1. (a) The sum of $35,000,000 is appropriated from the Alaska science and 07 technology endowment (AS 37.17.020) to the University of Alaska, Anchorage, for the 08 establishment and operation of the Center for the New Economy and Technology. 09 (b) It is the intent of the legislature that the Center for the New Economy and 10 Technology be established in collaboration with the Institute for Social and Economic 11 Research as a center for the study of a new economic paradigm and computer science and 12 technology. 13 * Sec. 2. The sum of $15,000,000 is appropriated from the Alaska science and technology 14 endowment (AS 37.17.020) to the University of Alaska, Anchorage, for the cost of
01 connections, wiring, bandwidth connectivity, and infrastructure for computer science and 02 technology programs and the Center for the New Economy and Technology. 03 * Sec. 3. The sum of $10,000,000 is appropriated from the Alaska science and technology 04 endowment (AS 37.17.020) to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, for infrastructure relating 05 to computer science and technology and enhancement of bandwidth connectivity. 06 * Sec. 4. The appropriation made by sec. 1 of this Act lapses on June 30, 2005. 07 * Sec. 5. The appropriations made by secs. 2 and 3 of this Act are for capital projects and 08 lapse under AS 37.25.020. 09 * Sec. 6. This Act takes effect July 1, 2000.
