00HOUSE BILL NO. 257 01 "An Act relating to funding for school districts operating secondary school 02 boarding programs; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.17 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05  Sec. 14.17.485. State funding for districts operating secondary school 06 boarding programs. (a) As a component of public school funding, a district is 07 eligible to receive reimbursement for the costs incurred by the district in operating a 08 secondary school boarding program. To be eligible for reimbursement for costs, the 09 district secondary school boarding program must provide suitable living 10 accommodations and daily access to a school offering the appropriate grade level. 11  (b) Costs that may be claimed by a district for reimbursement are 12  (1) one round trip between the student's community of residence and 13 the school during the school year if the school district expends money for the trip; 14  (2) room and board costs;

01  (3) an amount for supervision expenses if that amount does not exceed 02 30 percent of the costs under (2) of this subsection; and 03  (4) indirect costs that are approved by the department. 04 * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect July 1, 2000.
