01 "An Act relating to the maximum length of salmon seine vessels; and providing                                           
02 for an effective date."                                                                                                 
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  AS 16.05.835(a) is amended to read:                                                                  
05  (a)  Except as otherwise provided by the Board of Fisheries by regulation,                                           
06 a  [A] salmon seine vessel may not be longer than 58 feet overall length except vessels                                
07 that have fished for salmon with seines in waters of the state before January 1, 1962,                                  
08 as 50-foot, official Coast Guard register length vessels.                                                               
09    * Sec. 2.  AS 16.05.835(a) is repealed and reenacted to read:                                                      
10  (a)  The Board of Fisheries may adopt regulations for each salmon seine fishery                                       
11 specifying the maximum length of a vessel that may be used in the fishery.                                              
12    * Sec. 3.  Section 1 of this Act takes effect January 1, 2000.                                                     
13    * Sec. 4.  Section 2 of this Act takes effect January 1, 2004.
