01 "An Act excluding school principals from collectively bargaining under the Public                                       
02 Employment Relations Act."                                                                                              
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  AS 23.40.250(6) is amended to read:                                                                  
05   (6)  "public employee"                                                                                               
06    (A)   means any employee of a public employer, whether or not                                                    
07 in the classified service of the public employer ;                                                                     
08   (B)  does not include an  [, EXCEPT] elected or appointed                                                          
09  official, a school principal, or a superintendent  [OFFICIALS OR                                                     
10 SUPERINTENDENTS] of schools;                                                                                            
11    * Sec. 2.  Notwithstanding the amendment to AS 23.40.250(6) made by sec. 1 of this Act,                            
12 a school principal who, on the effective date of this Act, is a member of a bargaining unit that                        
13 has entered into a collective bargaining agreement that is in effect on the effective date of this                      
14 Act shall remain a member of that bargaining unit for the term of the bargaining agreement.
