00SENATE BILL NO. 317 01 "An Act relating to regulation of school buses; and providing for an effective 02 date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 28.05.104 is amended by adding new subsections to read: 05 (c) A person may not operate a school bus used to transport school children 06 to or from a public school, unless the school bus is equipped and inspected as required 07 by law. 08 (d) A person who violates (c) of this section is guilty of a violation. 09 * Sec. 2. TRANSITION. Notwithstanding the provisions of AS 28.05.104, as amended by 10 sec. 1 of this Act, a school district or regional educational attendance area school bus that is 11 not in compliance with the provisions of AS 28.05.104 may continue to be used until 12 January 1, 2001. In this section, "school bus" means a motor vehicle with a seating capacity 13 of eight or fewer passengers, including the operator, used to transport children to or from a 14 public school.
