00SENATE BILL NO. 6 01 "An Act establishing a division of consumer protection in the Department of Law; 02 and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 44.23 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Sec. 44.23.022. Division of consumer protection. (a) There is created in the 06 Department of Law the division of consumer protection. The director of consumer 07 protection is appointed by the attorney general and serves at the pleasure of the 08 attorney general. 09 (b) The division of consumer protection shall 10 (1) carry out the duties of the attorney general under AS 45 and other 11 laws relating to consumer affairs and consumer protection; and 12 (2) annually make recommendations to the governor and the legislature 13 for statutory changes that are needed to ensure adequate protection of consumers in 14 this state.
