01 "An Act relating to civil liability for activities of volunteer school crossing guards;                                 
02 and providing for an effective date."                                                                                   
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  AS 09.65 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
05  Sec. 09.65.094.  Civil liability for activities of volunteer crossing guard.  A                                     
06 person who provides volunteer crossing guard services to assist students to reach or                                    
07 depart from a public school and the school district in which the school is located may                                  
08 not be held civilly liable for damages resulting from an act or omission in performing                                  
09 the crossing guard services, unless the act or omission constitutes gross negligence,                                   
10 recklessness, or intentional misconduct.  In this section, "volunteer" means a person                                   
11 who does not receive monetary compensation for performing services.                                                     
12    * Sec. 2.  This Act applies to a claim for relief that accrues on or after the effective date                      
13 of this Act.                                                                                                            
14    *  Sec. 3.   This Act takes effect July 1, 1998.
