01 "An Act allowing a public or private school to adopt a policy authorizing the                                           
02 use of corporal correction."                                                                                            
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.30 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                   
05 Article 12.  Corporal Correction.                                                                                       
06     Sec. 14.30.800.  Corporal correction.  The principal of a public or private                                        
07 school, or a person employed by or contracting with a public or private school who                                      
08 is authorized by the principal, may impose or cause to be imposed corporal correction                                   
09 on a student if the corporal correction is authorized under written guidelines adopted                                  
10 by the governing body of the public or private school and is administered in the                                        
11 presence of a parent, legal guardian, or person designated by the parent or legal                                       
12 guardian.  In this section, "corporal correction" means the application of physical force                               
13 for disciplinary purposes on a student who does not comply with the rules of the                                        
14 public or private school.                                                                                               

01    * Sec. 2.  AS 14.45.100 is amended to read:                                                                          
02  Sec. 14.45.100.  Exemption.  A religious or other private school that complies                                        
03 with AS 14.45.100 - 14.45.130 is exempt from other provisions of law and regulations                                    
04 relating to education except law and regulations relating to physical health, corporal                                 
05 correction, fire safety, sanitation, immunization, and physical examinations.
