00HOUSE BILL NO. 505 01 "An Act relating to the centralized school program for the deaf; and providing 02 for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.16 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05  Sec. 14.16.200. SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF. (a) The department shall operate 06 a centralized program for the deaf available to deaf students in the state. The program 07 shall provide residential services as part of its educational program. 08  (b) The program may be operated by a school district under an agreement with 09 the department. 10 * Sec. 2. AS 14.17 is amended by adding a new section to read: 11  Sec. 14.17.028. MONEY FOR SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF. (a) Money for 12 the instructional services provided in a fiscal year by the party responsible for the 13 instructional program at the state school for the deaf established under AS 14.16.200 14 includes an allocation from the public school foundation account in an amount

01 calculated by 02  (1) multiplying the instructional unit value in AS 14.17.056 by the total 03 number of instructional units under AS 14.17.031 for that fiscal year, as determined 04 by treating the school for the deaf as if it were a school district consisting of a single 05 funding community; 06  (2) multiplying the product determined under (1) of this subsection by 07 the area cost differential that is applicable under AS 14.17.051 for the school district 08 in which the school is located; and 09  (3) adding 10  (A) the amount determined under AS 14.17.045; and 11  (B) if the school for the deaf is operated by a school district 12 under an agreement with the department, an amount determined by calculating 13 the amount of the school district's per student total contribution determined 14 under AS 14.17.025 multiplied by the number of students enrolled in the school 15 for the deaf whose parents, guardians, or legal custodians are not residents of 16 the school district in which the school for the deaf is operated. 17  (b) Students for whom an allocation is calculated under (a) of this section may 18 not be counted for any other calculation for payment of state aid under AS 14.17.010 - 19 14.17.056. 20 * Sec. 3. 4 AAC 33.070 is annulled. 21 * Sec. 4. This Act takes effect July 1, 1996.
