01 "An Act relating to the calculation of unemployment insurance benefits; and                                             
02 providing for an effective date."                                                                                       
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 23.20.350(d) is repealed and reenacted to read:                                                     
05  (d) An individual who is eligible under (a) of this section is entitled to receive                                    
06 a weekly benefit amount of $44 plus $2 for each $250 above $1,000 paid in base                                          
07 period wages as computed under (c) of this section.  The amount of base period wages                                    
08 used in computing the weekly benefit amount under this subsection may not exceed                                        
09 the base of contributions as determined under AS 23.20.175 for the calendar year in                                     
10 which the individual's benefit year begins.                                                                             
11    * Sec. 2.  APPLICABILITY.  This Act applies to benefit years for unemployment insurance                              
12 beginning on or after January 1, 1997.                                                                                  
13    * Sec. 3.  This Act takes effect  January 1, 1997.
