01 "An Act prohibiting certain amplified sounds from automobiles; and providing for                                        
02 an effective date."                                                                                                     
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 28.35 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                   
05  Sec. 28.35.185.  PROHIBITED SOUND SYSTEMS.  (a)  A person may not                                                     
06 operate a motor vehicle sound amplification system while driving on a highway,                                          
07 vehicular way, or area if the motor vehicle sound amplification system is audible                                       
08 outside the motor vehicle.  This subsection does not apply to                                                           
09   (1)  a person operating a sound amplification system to request                                                      
10 emergency assistance or to warn of a hazardous condition;                                                               
11   (2)  an emergency or police motor vehicle; or                                                                        
12   (3)  a motor vehicle engaged in advertising otherwise permitted by law.                                              
13  (b)  A person who violates this section is guilty of an infraction and may be                                         
14 punished as provided under AS 28.40.050(c) and (d).
