00SENATE CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 215(RLS) 01 "An Act relating to suspension of a student from a public school." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 14.30.045 is amended to read: 04  Sec. 14.30.045. GROUNDS FOR SUSPENSION OR DENIAL OF 05 ADMISSION. A school age child may be suspended from or denied admission to the 06 public school that the child is otherwise entitled to attend only for the following 07 causes: 08  (1) continued wilful disobedience or open and persistent defiance of 09 reasonable school authority; 10  (2) behavior that is inimicable to the welfare, safety, or morals of other 11 pupils or a person employed or volunteering at the school; 12  (3) a physical or mental condition that in the opinion of a competent 13 medical authority will render the child unable to reasonably benefit from the programs 14 available;

01  (4) a physical or mental condition that in the opinion of a competent 02 medical authority will cause the attendance of the child to be inimicable to the welfare 03 of other pupils; 04  (5) conviction of a felony that the governing body of the district 05 determines will cause the attendance of the child to be inimicable to the welfare or 06 education of other pupils. 07 * Sec. 2. AS 14.40.240 is amended to read: 08  Sec. 14.40.240. POWER OF PRESIDENT TO SUSPEND AND EXPEL 09 STUDENTS. The power to suspend and expel a student for misconduct or other cause 10 and to reinstate the student is vested solely in the president of the University of 11 Alaska. The president may delegate the exercise of the power to the chancellor 12 or another official on each campus of the university or to the administrative head 13 or director of a community college or other campus or extended unit of the 14 university.
