01 "An Act providing that the commissioner of education serves at the pleasure of                                          
02 the Board of Education; and providing for an effective date."                                                           
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.07.145(c) is amended to read:                                                                    
05  (c)  The commissioner serves at the pleasure of the board [MAY BE                                                   
06 APPOINTED BY THE BOARD FOR A TERM OF OFFICE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE                                                          
07 YEARS.  THE COMMISSIONER MAY BE REMOVED DURING A TERM OF                                                                
08 OFFICE BY FOUR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD FOR CAUSE AS DEFINED IN                                                             
09 THIS SECTION].                                                                                                          
10    * Sec. 2.  AS 14.07.145(f) is repealed.                                                                              
11    * Sec. 3.  This Act applies to appointments made by the Board of Education on or after the                           
12 effective date of this Act.                                                                                             
13    * Sec. 4.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
