01 "An Act relating to access to extracurricular school programs by home schooled                                          
02 students."                                                                                                              
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.30 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                   
05           Sec. 14.30.025.  HOME SCHOOLED STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN                                                      
06 PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAMS.  (a)  A governing body may not deny a student who                                               
07 is not in attendance within the school district the right to participate in extracurricular                             
08 activities occurring in the school district if the student                                                              
09   (1)  is receiving academic education at the student's residence as                                                   
10 permitted under  AS 14.30.010(b); and                                                                                   
11   (2)  otherwise meets all school district eligibility requirements for                                                
12 participation in the activity that are applicable to a student who is in attendance in the                              
13 school district.                                                                                                        
14  (b)  In this section,                                                                                                 



01   (1)  "extracurricular activities" include drama, debate, music, band, and                                            
02 athletic activities;                                                                                                    
03   (2)  "school district" means a municipal school district or a regional                                               
04 educational attendance area.
