SJR 39: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska to guarantee, in addition to the right of the people to keep and bear arms as approved by the voters at the time of ratification of the state Constitution, that the individual right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied or infringed by the state or a political subdivision of the state.

00SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 39 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska to guarantee, 02 in addition to the right of the people to keep and bear arms as approved by 03 the voters at the time of ratification of the state Constitution, that the individual 04 right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied or infringed by the state or 05 a political subdivision of the state. 06 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 07 * Section 1. Article I, sec. 19, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 08  SECTION 19. RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. A well-regulated 09 militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep 10 and bear arms shall not be infringed. The individual right to keep and bear arms 11 shall not be denied or infringed by the State or a political subdivision of the State. 12 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 13 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 14 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
