SCR 3: Relating to health care reform and recommendations of the Health Resources and Access Task Force.

00SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 3 01 Relating to health care reform and recommendations of the Health Resources and 02 Access Task Force. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS health care costs have grown at a rate far in excess of the overall inflation 05 rate in the economy; and 06 WHEREAS a recent survey of state residents conducted by the Health Resources and 07 Access Task Force indicated that the vast majority of Alaskans have significant concerns about 08 the adequacy and stability of health care costs; and 09 WHEREAS, despite the significant amount of money spent on health care, over 76,000 10 people in the state have no health care insurance; and 11 WHEREAS the individual states have been encouraged to pursue their own solutions 12 to health care reform, along with efforts underway by the federal government; and 13 WHEREAS there are inherent problems in our system of health care, including 14 insurance rates that are unaffordable, coverage that is not available, and a lack of access to

01 health care in many areas of the state; and 02 WHEREAS the state needs to fundamentally reform health care in order to correct 03 problems in the state's health care financing and delivery systems; and 04 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature created the Health Resources and Access 05 Task Force and that group after two years of intensive work has made specific 06 recommendations for changing the system of health care in this state; and 07 WHEREAS many of the recommendations of the Health Resources and Access Task 08 Force are contained in legislation to be considered by the Alaska State Legislature; 09 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature supports health care reform and 10 implementation of the recommendations of the Health Resources and Access Task Force.
