01 "An Act relating to the employment of certain state employees and officers                                              
02 seeking election to state or national office."                                                                          
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 39.25.160(e) is amended to read:                                                                    
05  (e)  Except for state officers who hold an elective state office and seek                                            
06 election to the same or another state or national elective office, an officer or [AN]                                
07 employee in the classified, [OR] partially exempt, or exempt service who files a                                   
08 general letter of intent to become a candidate, seeks nomination to, or becomes a                                    
09 candidate for state or national elective political office shall immediately resign any                                  
10 position held in the state service.  The officer's or employee's position becomes                                     
11 vacant on the date the officer or employee files a general letter of intent or a                                    
12 declaration of candidacy for state or national elective office.
