00SENATE BILL NO. 47 01 "An Act relating to equipment for and registration of custom collector vehicles; 02 and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 28.05 is amended by adding a new section to article 2 to read: 05 Sec. 28.05.106. CUSTOM COLLECTOR VEHICLE EQUIPMENT. (a) A 06 custom collector vehicle shall be equipped with 07 (1) hydraulic service brakes on all wheels; 08 (2) sealed beam or halogen headlights; 09 (3) safety belts for all occupants; 10 (4) turn signals and turn signaling switch; 11 (5) safety glass or lexan; 12 (6) electric or vacuum windshield wiper located in front of the driver; 13 (7) standard or blue-dot taillights; and 14 (8) a parking brake that operates on at least two wheels on the same
01 axle. 02 (b) Notwithstanding any other provisions of this title or regulations adopted 03 under this title, the department may not require a custom collector vehicle to be 04 equipped with a bumper, hood, or fenders. 05 * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.181 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 06 (r) Special request custom collector plates. Upon application by the owner of 07 a custom collector vehicle, the department may design and issue registration plates 08 appropriate for custom collector vehicles. The department may disapprove the 09 issuance of registration plates under this subsection when the requested plates are a 10 duplication of an existing registration. 11 * Sec. 3. AS 28.10.421(d)(2) is amended to read: 12 (2) special request plates for 13 (A) Alaska National Guard personnel . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $30; 14 (B) veterans or retired veterans . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $30; 15 (C) recipients of the Purple Heart . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $30; 16 (D) owners of custom collector vehicles . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $50; 17 (E) other special request plates . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $30; 18 plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) of this section; the fee required by this 19 paragraph shall be collected only on the first issuance and on the replacement of 20 special request plates; 21 * Sec. 4. AS 28.40.100(a) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 22 (23) "custom collector vehicle" means a vehicle whose body and frame 23 were manufactured before 1949 or a replica of a vehicle whose body and frame were 24 manufactured before 1949 and that has been modified for safe road use. 25 * Sec. 5. This Act takes effect January 1, 1994.
