00HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 26                                                                                      
01 Declaring 1994 to be the year of Vancouver.                                                                             
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03  WHEREAS 1994 marks the 200th anniversary of the completion of Captain George                                           
04 Vancouver's survey and charting of the waters of upper Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound,                                
05 and Southeastern Alaska; and                                                                                            
06  WHEREAS the charts and journals of George Vancouver from this survey are                                               
07 recognized as major contributions to maritime science and history; and                                                  
08  WHEREAS nearly all of the place names assigned by Vancouver during this survey                                         
09 remain in use today;                                                                                                    
10  BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature declares 1994 to be the year of                                       
11 Vancouver to commemorate George Vancouver's important contribution to the state's history;                              
12 and be it                                                                                                               
13  FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature calls on all residents of the                                       
14 state to recognize the contribution of George Vancouver to the state's history and participate                          

01 in appropriate activities to commemorate his survey and charting of the state's waters.
