HCR 18: Relating to Federal Public Land Week.

00HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 18 01 Relating to Federal Public Land Week. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS the citizens of Alaska recognize the many contributions that federally-owned public land, whose 04 magnificence and vastness comprise more than two-thirds of the 05 state, have made to the heritage and well-being of all citizens; and 06 WHEREAS this public land, which is open to all United States citizens, is an 07 immensely valuable asset not only to the nation but to Alaska as well, contributing a vast 08 spectrum of wealth to our society that benefits all citizens; and 09 WHEREAS the citizens of Alaska recognize the abundance of economic, recreational, 10 and social advantages they enjoy because of the very presence of this land; and 11 WHEREAS the citizens of Alaska also recognize the many contributions the use of 12 public land has made not only to the state's rural communities, whose livelihoods often 13 depend upon that use, but to all of Alaska's citizens as well; and 14 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature recognizes particularly the contribution that

01 public land has made to Alaska's fishing, mining, timber, oil and gas, and recreation 02 industries, contributing substantially to the state's economy by creating jobs for the working 03 people of the state; and 04 WHEREAS the citizens of Alaska acknowledge the need of the United States to 05 sustain the many uses of federally-owned public land while requiring a balance between those 06 activities and the conservation of this invaluable resource; 07 BE IT RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that to commemorate the many 08 benefits the state's citizens derive from the use and enjoyment of the federally-owned public 09 land of the state, it hereby declares the week of May 9 - 15, 1993, to be Federal Public Land 10 Week in Alaska.
