00CS FOR SPONSOR SUBSTITUTE FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 301(L&C)                                                                   
01 "An Act prohibiting the sale of certain studded tires or the sale of certain studs                                      
02 to be installed in tires; and providing for an effective date."                                                         
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 28.35.155 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                            
05  (c)  A person may not sell a studded tire or sell a stud for installation in a tire                                   
06 if the sale is conducted as a part of the person's business and the stud being sold or                                  
07 a stud used in the studded tire has a weight greater than (1) 1.3 grams if the stud is                                  
08 sold for use or is used with a tire that has a tire rim smaller than 17 inches; or (2) 2.0                              
09 grams if the stud is sold for use or is used with a tire that has a tire rim equal to or                                
10 greater than 17 inches.  In this subsection, "business" has the meaning given in                                        
11 AS 43.70.110.                                                                                                           
12    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect July 1, 1997.
