00HOUSE BILL NO. 230 01 "An Act relating to fees for commercial fishing licenses and permits." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. INTENT. It is the intent of the legislature that the revenue generated by this 04 Act be appropriated to the Department of Fish and Game for the management, rehabilitation, 05 enhancement, development, and scientific study of the commercial fishery resources of the 06 state. 07 * Sec. 2. AS 16.05.530(a) is amended to read: 08  (a) Upon payment of a license fee [OF $20] for one year, or [$40] for two 09 years at the option of the owner, and filing of the name and address of the owner of 10 the vessel or the owner's authorized agent, the name and number of the vessel, a 11 description of the vessel, vessel license number, if any, the area to be fished, and other 12 reasonable information required by the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission, the 13 commission shall issue a number plate and a vessel license. The annual license fee 14 is the greater of $20 or $2 per gross ton of the vessel. The license fee for two

01 years is twice the annual license fee. If the vessel has a number plate, the 02 commission shall issue a vessel license and tab designating the year or years the 03 license is valid. The tab shall be placed in the space provided on the permanent 04 number plate. 05 * Sec. 3. AS 16.43.160(b) is amended to read: 06  (b) Annual fees established under this section shall [BE NO LESS THAN $10 07 AND NO MORE THAN $750 AND SHALL] reasonably reflect the different rates of 08 economic return for different fisheries. The amount of an annual fee for a nonresident 09 shall be three times the amount of the annual fee for a resident. 10 * Sec. 4. APPLICABILITY. The vessel license fees, limited entry permit fees, and 11 interim-use permit fees established under this Act are applicable to those licenses and permits 12 for 1994 and subsequent years that are issued or renewed after the effective date of this Act.
