01 "An Act relating to the organization of the Department of Transportation and                                            
02 Public Facilities into four regions."                                                                                   
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 44.42.040 is amended to read:                                                                       
05  Sec. 44.42.040.  DEPARTMENTAL ORGANIZATION.  The commissioner                                                         
06 shall establish four regions within the state, southeast, central, northern, and rural.                              
07 The rural region shall consist of the North Slope, the western part of the state,                                       
08 and the Aleutian Chain.  The functions of the department within each region shall                                      
09 be performed, to the maximum extent feasible, through a regional office.  Each                                          
10 regional office shall be directed by a regional transportation and public facilities                                    
11 director appointed by the commissioner.
