01 "An Act requiring the Department of Health and Social Services to provide voter                                         
02 registration information to a person seeking public assistance; and providing for                                       
03 an effective date."                                                                                                     
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
05    * Section 1.  AS 47.05 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                   
06  Sec. 47.05.090.  VOTER REGISTRATION.  A state resident, who will be 18                                                
07 years of age or older within 90 days, who applies to the Department of Health and                                       
08 Social Services for general relief, Medicaid, aid to families with dependent children,                                  
09 adult public assistance, or food stamps shall at the time of application be advised by                                  
10 the department that the resident may also register to vote.  The department shall use                                   
11 a form for voter registration prepared by the division of elections and shall forward                                   
12 completed forms to the division of elections.  The department shall prominently                                         
13 display notice of the right to apply for voter registration at each place that the public                               
14 may apply for assistance under AS 47.07 or AS 47.25.
