01 "An Act relating to payment by indigent persons for legal services and related                                          
02 costs; and providing for an effective date."                                                                            
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 18.85.120(c) is amended to read:                                                                    
05  (c)  [UPON THE PERSON'S CONVICTION, THE] The court may enter a                                                      
06 judgment that a person for whom counsel is appointed pay for the necessary services                                     
07 and facilities of representation and court costs [, BUT EXECUTION OF THE                                                
08 JUDGMENT MAY NOT COMMENCE UNTIL THREE YEARS AFTER RELEASE                                                               
09 OF THE DEFENDANT FROM INCARCERATION UNLESS FOR GOOD CAUSE                                                               
10 SHOWN, THE COURT CONSIDERS IT APPROPRIATE TO EXECUTE EARLIER].                                                          
11 Upon a showing of financial hardship, the court shall allow a person subject to a                                       
12 judgment entered under this subsection to make payments under a payment schedule.                                       
13 Payments made under this subsection shall be paid into the state general fund.                                          
14    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
