04    * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to article 2 to read:                                       
05 Sec. 44.12.190. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness Month. The                                                      
06 month of May each year is established as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness                                        
07 Month to promote awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and to recognize people                                     
08 living with the disease and those researching causes, treatments, and a cure.                                           
09 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness Month may be observed by public and                                             
10       private agencies and individuals with appropriate activities that increase the public's                           
11       awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and understanding of the challenges faced                              
12       by individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.                                                                
13    * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
