00 HOUSE BILL NO. 230 am 01 "An Act relating to teacher certificates for retired teachers; and repealing the limit on 02 the number of years of out-of-state school experience that may be substituted for in-state 03 experience in teacher salary scales." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05  * Section 1. AS 14.20.020(g) is amended to read: 06 (g) The department shall issue, at no cost to the person, a teacher certificate 07 to a person who possessed a valid Alaska teacher certificate upon retirement. A 08 teacher certificate issued under this subsection is valid for the life of the retired teacher 09 and qualifies the holder as a substitute teacher in the state. A teacher certificated  10 under this subsection may teach as a long-term substitute teacher for not more  11 than 165 consecutive days of a school term. In this subsection, "long-term  12 substitute teacher" means a teacher who is employed in the state to substitute  13 teach for more than 20 consecutive days of a school term.  14  * Sec. 2. AS 14.16.050(a)(3)(C); AS 14.20.220(e), and 14.20.220(g) are repealed. 01  * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 02 read: 03 APPLICABILITY. Section 1 of this Act applies to a contract or collective bargaining 04 agreement that becomes legally binding on or after the effective date of this Act.
