01 "An Act relating to criminal law definitions."                                                                          
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 11.81.900(b)(47) is amended to read:                                                               
04                 (47)  "person" means a natural person or an entity that has the moral                               
05       right of self-determination and, when appropriate, an organization, government, or                            
06       governmental instrumentality;                                                                                     
07    * Sec. 2. AS 11.81.900(b) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read:                                            
08                 (69)  "life" means the property or quality that distinguishes a living                                  
09       organism from a dead organism or inanimate matter and that is manifested in the                                   
10       function of a metabolism, growth, reproduction, a response to stimuli, or adaptation to                           
11       the environment, each of which originates within the organism.                                                    
12    * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to                          
13 read:                                                                                                                   
14       APPLICABILITY. AS 11.81.900(b)(47), as amended by sec. 1 of this Act, and                                         
15 AS 11.81.900(b)(69), enacted by sec. 2 of this Act, apply to offenses committed on or after                             
01 the effective date of this Act.
