00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 19(FIN) am 01 "An Act relating to the registration of commercial vessels." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. AS 05.25.055(i) is amended to read: 04 (i) The following boats are exempt from the numbering and registration 05 provisions of this section: 06 (1) a boat that 07 (A) is not a barge; 08 (B) is operated in this state for a period not exceeding 90 09 consecutive days; and 10 (C) has a current, valid certificate of number issued by another 11 state having a federally approved numbering system; 12 (2) a foreign boat operated in water of the state for a period not 13 exceeding 90 consecutive days; 14 (3) a boat owned by the United States or an entity or political 15 subdivision of the United States, or a boat owned by a state or an entity or political 01 subdivision of a state; 02 (4) a boat that is not equipped with mechanical propulsion; 03 (5) a boat with a valid document to operate the boat that is issued by 04 the United States or a foreign government; 05 (6) a handmade nonmotorized umiaq with a walrus or sealskin 06 covering; 07 (7) a commercial vessel that has a valid  08 (A) certificate of documentation issued by the United States  09 Coast Guard under 46 U.S.C. 12101 - 12121; and  10 (B) license issued under AS 16.05.490 or 16.05.530;  11 (8) a boat that 12 (A) is a barge; 13 (B) is operated in this state for a period not exceeding 60 14 consecutive days; and 15 (C) has a current, valid certificate of number issued by another 16 state having a federally approved numbering system. 17  * Sec. 2. AS 16.05.475 is amended by adding new subsections to read: 18 (e) Beginning January 1, 2025, the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry 19 Commission shall assess a registration fee of $8 a year for a commercial fishing vessel 20 that has a certificate of documentation issued by the United States Coast Guard under 21 46 U.S.C. 12101 - 12121. 22 (f) Fees collected under (e) of this section shall be separately accounted for as 23 provided in AS 05.25.096(b).
