01 "An Act relating to bonuses for national board certified teachers."                                                     
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 14.20 is amended by adding a new section to article 3 to read:                                     
04            Sec. 14.20.225. Teacher eligibility for bonus payments. (a) The department                               
05       shall create a system that provides an annual bonus of not less than $10,000 a year for                           
06       a person who                                                                                                      
07                 (1)  is employed as a classroom teacher in a public school in the state;                                
08       and                                                                                                               
09                 (2)  has current national board certification as a teacher.                                             
10            (b)  Payment of a bonus under this section does not affect the employment                                    
11       status of the person receiving the bonus or in any way make the person an employee of                             
12       the state.
