00 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 55(JUD) 01 "An Act relating to judges of the court of appeals; and providing for an effective date." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. AS 22.07.010 is amended to read: 04 Sec. 22.07.010. Establishment. There is established the court of appeals.  05 Except as provided under AS 22.07.070(c), the court of appeals consists [, 06 CONSISTING] of three judges. The court of appeals is a court of record. 07  * Sec. 2. AS 22.07.010, as amended by sec. 1 of this Act, is amended to read: 08 Sec. 22.07.010. Establishment. There is established the court of appeals,  09 consisting [. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED UNDER AS 22.07.070(c), THE COURT OF 10 APPEALS CONSISTS] of three judges. The court of appeals is a court of record. 11  * Sec. 3. AS 22.07.070 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 12 (c) The chief justice of the supreme court may appoint acting court of appeals 13 judges as needed to serve at the pleasure of the chief justice of the supreme court for a 14 term of not longer than two years. An acting court of appeals judge must meet the 15 qualifications established under AS 22.07.040. Service as an acting court of appeals 01 judge is not considered a judicial service for the purposes of AS 22.25 unless the 02 acting court of appeals judge is subsequently appointed to the office of judge of the 03 court of appeals under (a) of this section. 04  * Sec. 4. AS 22.07.070(c) is repealed. 05  * Sec. 5. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 06 read: 07 REVISOR'S INSTRUCTION. The revisor of statutes is requested to change the catch 08 line of AS 22.07.070 from "Vacancies" to "Selection of court of appeals judges." 09  * Sec. 6. Sections 2 and 4 of this Act take effect July 1, 2021.
