00 HOUSE BILL NO. 210 01 "An Act relating to speedy trial time limits; and amending Rules 45(b), 45(c)(6), and 02 45(d)(7), Alaska Rules of Criminal Procedure, and repealing Rule 45(d)(3), Alaska Rules 03 of Criminal Procedure." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05  * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 06 to read: 07 DIRECT COURT RULE AMENDMENT. Rule 45(b), Alaska Rules of 08 Criminal Procedure, is amended to read: 09 (b) Speedy Trial Time Limits. A defendant charged with a felony, a 10 misdemeanor, or a violation shall be tried within 70 [120] days from the time set forth 11 in paragraph (c) of this rule. 12  * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 13 read: 14 DIRECT COURT RULE AMENDMENT. Rule 45(c)(6), Alaska Rules of 01 Criminal Procedure, is amended to read: 02 (6) Minor Offenses. In cases involving minor offenses as defined in 03 Minor Offense Rule 2, the defendant must be tried within 70 [120] days from the date 04 the defendant's request for trial is received by the court or the municipality, whichever 05 occurs first. 06  * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 07 read: 08 DIRECT COURT RULE AMENDMENT. Rule 45(d)(7), Alaska Rules of 09 Criminal Procedure, is amended to read: 10 (7) Other periods of delay for good cause upon application of the  11 defendant. 12  * Sec. 4. Rule 45(d)(3), Alaska Rules of Criminal Procedure, is repealed. 13  * Sec. 5. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 14 read: 15 APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to offenses committed on or after the effective 16 date of this Act.
