01 "An Act establishing the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area."                                             
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 41.21 is amended by adding a new section to article 5 to read:                                     
04            Sec. 41.21.524. Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area                                           
05       established. (a) The Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area is                                        
06       established as a special purpose site in accordance with art. VIII, sec. 7, of the                                
07       Constitution of the State of Alaska to protect wolves from hunting and trapping. The                              
08       Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area consists of the land and water                                   
09       presently owned by the state and the land and water acquired in the future by the state                           
10       lying within the boundaries of the parcel described in this subsection:                                           
11            Beginning at the corner common to Townships 11 and 12 South, Ranges 8 and                                    
12       9 West, Fairbanks Meridian, also the true point of beginning; thence easterly on the                              
13       township line between Townships 11 and 12 South, Range 8 West, Fairbanks                                          
14       Meridian, to the centerline of the George Parks Highway; thence southerly on the                                  
15       centerline of the George Parks Highway to the intersection with the section line                                  
01       between Sections 19 and 30, Township 12 South, Range 7 West, Fairbanks Meridian;                                  
02       thence westerly on the section line between Sections 19 and 30, Sections 20 and 29,                               
03       Sections 21 and 28, and Sections 22 and 27, Township 12 South, Range 7 West,                                      
04       Fairbanks Meridian, to the intersection with a line parallel with and one mile easterly                           
05       of the Transmission Line of the Willow-Healy Intertie; the centerline is shown on                                 
06       ADL 213063, and recorded as Plat 87-31 in the Nenana Recording District, Plat 87-56                               
07       in the Talkeetna Recording District, and Plat 87-280 in the Palmer Recording District;                            
08       thence southerly on a line parallel with and one mile easterly of the Transmission Line                           
09       of the Willow-Healy Intertie to the intersection with the Ordinary High Water of the                              
10       northerly bank of Carlo Creek; thence westerly on the Ordinary High Water of the                                  
11       northerly bank of Carlo Creek to the confluence with the Ordinary High Water of the                               
12       easterly bank of the Nenana River; thence due West across the Nenana River to the                                 
13       eastern boundary of the Denali National Park and Preserve; thence northerly, westerly,                            
14       northerly, and easterly on the boundary of the Denali National Park and Preserve to                               
15       the true point of beginning.                                                                                      
16            (b)  The land and water lying within the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special                                    
17       Management Area is reserved from all uses incompatible with its primary function to                               
18       protect wolves from hunting and trapping, except that nothing in this section may be                              
19       construed to prevent the Department of Fish and Game from taking, or authorizing the                              
20       taking of, wolves that present a danger to the health or safety of local residents.                               
21            (c)  The land and water lying within the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special                                    
22       Management Area is assigned to the department for control, development, and                                       
23       maintenance.
