01 "An Act authorizing the president of the University of Alaska to enter into partnership                                 
02 agreements with private industry."                                                                                      
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 14.40.210(a) is amended to read:                                                                   
05            (a)  The president of the University of Alaska may                                                           
06                 (1)  give general direction to the work of the University of Alaska in all                              
07       its departments subject to the approval of the Board of Regents;                                                  
08                 (2)  appoint the deans, heads of departments, professors, assistants,                                   
09       instructors, tutors, and other officers of the University of Alaska to the positions                              
10       established by the Board of Regents;                                                                              
11                 (3)  establish procedures for receipt, expenditure, and fiscal year                                     
12       reporting of university receipts;                                                                                 
13                 (4)  approve a contract between the University of Alaska and an                                         
14       employee that authorizes the employee to conduct research or other development of                                 
01       intellectual property and to develop, operate, or own a business related to or resulting                          
02       from the research conducted during the employment; a business described under this                                
03       paragraph may be jointly owned by the employee and the University of Alaska;                                  
04                 (5)  enter into partnership agreements with corporations lawfully                                   
05       doing business in the state for the purpose of marketing and distributing                                     
06       technology developed by or through the University of Alaska; a partnership                                    
07       agreement entered into under this paragraph must provide for adequate                                         
08       protections of private financial information, intellectual property, and other                                
09       matters necessary to the security of confidential information relevant to the                                 
10       agreement.
